OMG. That water is cooooold!!! I’ll tell you what, you go down the the McKenzie River, right between Sisters and Springfield (outside Eugene), and dip those little “sitting on my ass, reading blogs” feet into that rushing white water and you’ll know the definition of cold. Check it…I read an article in Portland Monthly a few issues back about a pond on the McKenzie they called Tamolitch Pool. Frederick Reimers, the writer of the article, goes into all the fantastic and educational details about how this pool was formed. Check out the article for some brain food.
Anyway, the point is that the pool gives off this weird energy. I’m not talking little pale white kid ghost energy, but like a scary, awe-inspiring, Jesus was here kind of energy. It makes you want to breath in, and that’s always good. If you want directions, you need to look up “Blue Pond” which is, what I can gather, another name for the pool. It’s a two mile hike in a beautifully scenic old forest, with lava rock and, as my wife calls the bubbling McKenzie, “fairy lands”. Take the time and pack a lunch, drive down to the McKenzie, pick one of many campsites to crash in and have a ball. The winding hike is easy, and if you are a biker, the trails are open to you as well. So there you go, the summer is still alive and kicking, so get out of the house and get some vitamin D. Your body loves it.
